Our mission for Apex is that we would learn to live on the Apex of life, to live life to the fullest, and as Thoreau said to "live deep and suck out all the marrow of life." We believe that God created us to be in relationship with him and only through him can we live life to the fullest.
Our mission is that Apex would be a safe place for all youth; the smart
and dumb, the in crowd and the outsiders, the conformists and the
rebels, those who believe and those who don't. We know that the love of
God transcends our earthly personalities, that he died not just for the
in crowd but for the outsiders as well, and that God doesn't just love
us if we're Christian, but his love for us transcends our beliefs. We
desire to teach both believers and unbelievers in hopes that all the
youth of Deland would know God's love and of the sacrifice he gave for
us, and would put their lives in his hands and see what the Apex of
life is about.
Our Mission is also to have community together. We know that
God doesn't want us to walk Christian lives alone, so we desire to have
true community, just as the believers did in the early church did:
They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the
fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled
with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the
apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common.
Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had
need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts.
They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere
hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the
Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
(Acts 2:42-47)
We believe that only in this community can we be true disciples of
Jesus, only in this community can we truly see and experience what this
whole Christian life thing is about. Only in this
community can we experience the Apex of the life God has for us.
And so we desire that all youth would feel accepted and loved in this
community. We desire to share meals together, have fun, fellowship with
one another outside of our events, accept one another for who they are,
and above all of these things to "Grow
in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ."
(2 Peter 3:18) We do this through prayer and opening God's word. Paul
tells us that all scripture is useful for teaching, so we don't just
focus on the easy stuff, we desire to move beyond spiritual milk and
get into the meat. We desire to be challenged, to be pushed, to be
stretched, and when we feel like we have nothing left to grasp onto, to
grasp onto Christ, an in doing so realize that he is all we ever truly
had to grasp onto.
You might think of this mission and feel like it's just another
statement of things that people say they want or say they believe, but
we challenge you to try it out. Taste
and See that the Lord is good.
This is not a statement of things that only the youth leaders will do, they cannot force community, they cannot force youth to do anything but can only lead them to the water, it's their choice to drink.
